Our company got its start in 1963, after founder, Bernie Adler, who had been involved in developing home subdivisions turned to commercial real estate management and development. He formed B&A Construction and purchased a parcel in Parsippany, NJ to build a 29-unit garden apartment community. Over the next few years, his construction company expanded into shopping centers, and in the early 1970s, he formed Readington Associates. This commercial development firm acquired parcels in Northern New Jersey to build 165,000 square feet of flex-industrial space. So began his portfolio’s growth to over two million square feet today.
By the mid-1980s, Bernie acquired more parcels for multi-story office buildings and office parks, and performed site improvements for resale to single-home residential developers. The 1990s brought a focus on the industrial market and warehouse development for the Adlers. Bernie’s sons Joshua, Matthew and Seth all joined the company as they each graduated from college.
Together, the Adlers bought more parcels of land and developed more warehouses and flex office/warehouse buildings. The younger Adlers brought new vision and focus to the company and in 2001, the company officially adopted the name Adler Development. It was around this time that the firm became involved in brownfield cleanups and redevelopment projects.
Today, Adler Development holds approximately two million square feet of commercial property and over 800 multi-family residential units.
